Cellulose insulation has the advantage of being made from recycled newsprint.  An organic product, it is chemically treated to resist decay and to make it fire retardant.

       ADVANTAGES OF CELLULOSE INSULATION:

1.)  It resists air movement and is not as adversely affected by air movement around it as is fiberglass.

2.)  It can be applied, especially in attic areas, with very low cost equipment.

3.)  The fine particle size fills in around fixtures and obstructions, the application is more fool proof than fiberglass.

    DISADVANTAGES OF CELLULOSE VS. FIBERGLASS:

1.)  To prevent molds and structural problems years after the home is built, wet sprayed cellulose must be left to dry completely before being covered. Depending on humidity, this process can take from three to seven days or longer.  Often, builders are rushed and don’t allow the product to dry properly.

2.) Installed in walls, cellulose is substantially more expensive than fiberglass.

3.) Most homes cannot be insulated with cellulose alone. Fiberglass or foam insulation needs to be installed below the floor to complete the job.
